The Castro Art Walk is TODAY! August 4, 5-8 pm The August edition of the Castro Art Walk is today with 16 great art exhibits sprinkled all across the amazing Castro Arts District in San Francisco.  You don’t want to miss it! The Castro Art Walk is 5 - 8, and some businesses stay even later. Paper maps can be picked up in any of the participating stores. Castro Art Walk www.castroartwalk.com Featured Art Exhibits: Harvey Milk Photo Center (50 Scott St):  Our annual Member, Staff & Volunteer Show portrays the current look at what is being created in our darkrooms and digital lab here at the Harvey Milk Photo Center, by our members, staff and volunteers.  This exciting exhibit is showcasing each photographers chosen and personal best. It has been curated by the staff, members and our generous volunteers and encompasses a wide and exciting range of subject matter. Schlomer Haus Gallery (2128 Market St): What Remains. A group show to raise awareness about the impact of “rainbow washing” and how corporate America has used Pride as an opportunity to cash in, without having to put in actual effort or produce tangible outcomes for the queer community. Today, mental health is reaching near pandemic levels in the LGBTQIA+ community, with devastating impact - and it needs year round attention. This year, we want to help change the narrative and keep support going long after Pride by creating a first-of-its-kind rainbow recycling program and art exhibition. We have collected rainbow-colored rubbish from this year's SF Pride Parade and 10  local LGBTQIA+ artists will transform the flotsam into works of art that we will exhibit at our gallery as part of a group show and live auction with all proceeds going to support Queer Life Space, who provide mental health services for our community. The exhibition opening reception and live auction will be August 4th. Ruby’s Clay Studio and Gallery (552A Noe St): Sidewalk Sale (cash and check payments only) Seconds, sale items, and regularly priced ceramics for sale by a selection of Ruby’s Drop-In Participants, Locker & Space Holders, Students, and Teachers. MAG Galleries (3931 18th St): The three artists in CHANGED INTENTIONS, use materials not normally intended for the creation of art.  Bussie Parker Kehoe uses rubberlike masses of dried, house paint found at the bottom of paint cans, Denise Laws up-cycles discarded, consumer-good packaging with reflective or stained surfaces and Sarah Smith repurposes leftover construction materials which she surfaces with hydrocal.  The artists have created beautiful objects whose materiality represents the possibility and hope of recycling. Art House SF (2324 Market St): This Saturday we’re opening a new exhibit at Art House SF titled "Faces of Soweto" by the amazing South African artist Tsholo "Splash" Motong. Art opens a new channel of understanding for us, not cognitive but intuitive and sensorial.   And with Tsholo's work, we're transported to his environment, his colorful life and the people who surround him.  The people of Soweto township near Johannesburg, South Africa.  Their faces, their daily scenes, the local merchants, the local streets.  All of that Tsholo is capturing.  All of that you will get to see. The exhibit previews during the Castro Art Walk tomorrow from 5 to 8pm, and officially opens on Saturday at 4pm.  It'll be on display for 6 weeks, but you don't want to miss it. Welcome Castro (525 Castro St):   Artist: Nathalie Fabri Colors and light are the mainspring when a new piece is forming; the desire to create erupts from a yearning to see colors interact on the canvas. The use of bold, contrasting colors increasingly takes precedence in directing the mood of my paintings. My current work is focused on urban landscapes; mostly the beauty of San Francisco streets and neighborhoods. I try to engage the viewer by creating a mood with the exaggerated colors. A person may feel that there is a particular story behind the painting, interpreted by how they perceive the colors. I tend to paint the scenes showing city lights as well, so my paintings tend to be during that time before the sun rises or has just set. In French, this time is called ‘between dog and wolf’. 2358 MRKT (2358 Market St): Cool Summer Vibes featuring multiple artists and a color palette to cool your summer. 2358MRKT is happy to announce our Pop+Art show!!  We have 17 amazing artists displaying their work.  The opening reception will be from 5-10 PM.  Come down and have fun, discover new artists, and add to your collections. The Academy (2166 Market St): Celebrating Photographer Jim Wigler of "Drummer" Magazine Fame.  The exhibit includes images from a photo shoot at The Academy’s location during the early 1980s, plus a selection of Jim’s other work featuring gay men of San Francisco during his storied career. … and more!
